UA VIP - Program Application

The Wisconsin Pipe Trades Association (WPTA) Veterans Outreach Job Skills Training Program is a voluntary educational program. The students selected are invited to participate in this training program      on a voluntary basis. The training will be provided to the students at no cost and no payment or remuneration is guaranteed to students during the classroom portion of the training program.

The Wisconsin Pipe Trades Association may rescind any student’s invitation to participate in this training program at any time, and without any advance notice. Any student who is absent or tardy 3 or more times will be removed from the program. 

The WPTA Veterans Outreach Job Skills Training Program will be a maximum of 18 weeks in length and  shall consist of six 40-hour weeks (4/10s) of classroom instruction and up to twelve weeks of on-the-job  training (OJT) through participating union contractors. All classes will be administered by WPTA instructors and shall be held daily Monday through Thursday at designated WPTA Training Facilities throughout the state of Wisconsin. 

Veterans who apply to this training program must be 18 years old or older and have proof of high school graduation or a General Education Development (GED) certificate. Veterans must also hold a current driver’s license and have a driving record which allows insurability by participating contractor’s insurance  carriers. 

All students must pass a urinalysis drug test prior to beginning the OJT portion of this program 

Each student must provide their own personal protective clothing and work boots. The WPTA Veterans Outreach Job Skills Training Program will provide students with non-prescription safety glasses or goggles, as well as other necessary PPE and tools for use during this training program. 

During the 6 weeks of classroom training, each student will receive instruction in the subjects as described in this document. Students must attend all classroom training and maintain a minimum    score of 75% on all written and practical evaluations and worksheet.

Upon successful completion of the classroom training you will be placed with a participating employer for OJT. With successful completion you will likely be placed into a Wisconsin Apprenticeship Program.
